Who We Are

Gateway Counseling Center was formed in 1969 to send out a strong message to survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and those struggling with addictions and other life altering issues – a message of hope, healing and individual empowerment.

Gateway Counseling Center is a nonprofit organization started specifically to meet the needs of adolescents. Our doors first opened in 1969 as a drop-in center for teens. In 1971, responding to the counseling needs of adolescents Gateway broadened to include crisis services and recreational activities. Today the Center is a full service mental health agency, and is licensed by the State of Michigan as an outpatient substance abuse treatment program.

Gateway is one of the few grassroots organizations in Oakland country striving to serve the underemployed, uninsured individuals & families in need. Our door is open to all.

The Mission: to assist individuals in crisis and transition them into wellness, finding meaning, fulfillment and joy in their lives.
